- סַפִּירm. (b. h.; סָפַר) 1) sapphire. Ex. R. s. 38, end על ס׳ היהוכ׳ on the sapphire (in the high priests breastplate) the name of Issachar was engraven. Pesik. ‘Ăniya, p. 135b> נבקע … והס׳ לא חסר the anvil was split, the hammer was broken in two, but the sapphire remained intact. Lam. R. to IV, 7, v. גִּזְרָה; a. e.V. סַמְפִּירִינוֹן. 2) sappir, name of a species of beans. Kil. I, 1, expl. Y. ib. 27a top פושונה (R. S. to Kil. l. c. פַּיְישׂוּנָא).
